STORY
Friends,
I’m beyond excited to share with you a project that I’ve been working on for some time. As many of you know, I’ve long been a fan of the fashion/style world. So upon starting at Wharton, I decided that my “stretch experience” would involve taking a stab at designing university apparel. The result is what I hope you’ll consider a fresh, contemporary take on your standard bookstore fare.
The Wharton Crew is a heavyweight (12 ounce), white Champion fleece with fully embroidered black type.
“The Wharton School” is featured boldly across the chest while a modern, monochrome version of the University of Pennsylvania coat of arms has been subtly stitched to the right sleeve as a reflection of the school’s relationship to its parent university.
Finally, “Philadelphia” is placed on the lumbar of the sweatshirt in an homage to Wharton’s hometown.
50 pieces of The Wharton Crew will be released alongside Early Bird VIP and Premium tickets to the Penn Charity Fashion Show. All profits from its sale will go to YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School.
MAKING OF - STITCHED IN PHILADELPHIA
Not wanting to settle for a lower quality, screen-printed sweatshirt, I decided to have the sweatshirt fully embroidered, here in Philadelphia. Little did I know how difficult that would actually prove to be. Fortunately, after a lengthy search, I found the right person for the job. Here, we have my friend Cornelios absolutely crushing it.
To take a digital file and render it in preparation for embroidery, Cornelios uses an absurdly expensive ($35k!@##) program called Tajima. The videos below show a digital rendering of literally each individual stitch. It’s pretty wild to watch on screen knowing actual machines are about to do exactly what you’re seeing.
Now check out some of the Penn Charity Fashion Show models crushing it in The Wharton Crew.
